From the Principal

A huge welcome back to all our students, families, and staff for the start of what promises to be another fantastic term here at St. Vincent's. I hope everyone had a restful and rejuvenating break, and you're all feeling refreshed and ready for the nine weeks ahead.  A highlight for me will be the opportunities we have to welcome our 2026 Foundation students as they visit for transition sessions.

We've certainly hit the ground running, and I'm thrilled to report that our staff development day earlier this week was a tremendous success. A particular highlight was the outstanding presentation by our very own students, Summah and Tahlia. They bravely introduced us to an innovative new Wellbeing program, Stand Up! This program is designed to empower individuals to reduce bullying behaviours and promote a more inclusive and supportive school environment for everyone. Thank you to Brooke Burke who attended the initial training day with the girls last term, as well as to Olivia Portelli and Mikayla Couling who have been assisting the girls prepare for the presentation and resourcing. We're incredibly proud of Summah and Tahlia's and look forward to seeing the positive impact of Stand Up! across our school.

You might also notice a few changes with this newsletter. Our editing suite has received an upgrade, so the layout may appear a little different. We're excited about the possibilities this brings and hope to introduce some new enhancements soon. One key feature we're working on is integrating our school calendar, which should allow you to sync important dates directly to your own devices. We believe this will be a valuable tool for keeping everyone informed and organised.

Here's to a positive and productive nine weeks for all. Let's continue to work together to make St. Vincent's a wonderful place to learn.

Warm regards,

Dave

Book Covering Heroes!

Thanks to those parents who spent the holidays unrolling curling bits of contact to ensure that our new juniors books and senior novels were covered, ready for Term 3.

If you have any books still at home can you please drop them into the office.

We love our Book Covering Heroes!!

Lavalla's THE LITTLE MERMAID

Thank you to Lavalla Catholic College Leadership team for the invite for our Year 6's to attend this show, as well the students and staff who have produced this high quality performance.

Our Year 6 students and staff loved the opportunity to travel to GPAC on Thursday for the matinee with many suggesting they would be encouraging their families to go watch the show this weekend.

Head to the GPAC website for ticketing information.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students have the opportunity to undertake.

As students progress through their school years, it’s important to check how well they are learning the essential skills of reading, writing and numeracy.

NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards and over time.

NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.

NAPLAN also provides schools, education authorities and governments with information about how education programs are working and whether young Australians are achieving important educational outcomes in literacy and numeracy.

We expect the 2024 Student Reports to be delivered to the school in the next couple of weeks.  Parents will received a paper copy of the report and we encourage you to place it someone safe as most secondary school request a copy when you enrol for Year 7.

Please take the time to read the following information sheet:

Before and After School Traffic Management

Sandleford 450 x 600mm Shared Zone Plastic Sign

Just a continued reminder about the need for everyone to be safe and vigilant when in the carpark.  We all have a shared responsibility to ensure all our children and families are safe.  The first few minutes at start and end of the day are very busy times, and as the weather turns wet and cold we have more cars accessing closer positions to the school.  Please take your time and not rush.

In the morning we ask all parents to drop off at the start of the Kiss & Go Zone, close as possible to the exit gate.  This allows more students to exit vehicles safely at the same time, eliminating the build up of traffic lined up in the car park.  The Kiss and Go Zone (marked with yellow paint) is also wide enough for cars to overtake each other, which again will help eliminate congestion.

Cars are not permitted in the Kiss & Go Zone in the afternoon.  This allows for the increased space for students to be collected, eliminating the congestion at the bottom of the ramp.
